Creating Radica Textiles was a chance to draw anything she wanted and put it on fabric; a chance to find creative fulfillment while bolstering the American manufacturing sector. Or so she envisioned. Srarh Templin, founder of Radica Textiles, talks about how reality seeped in via dismal licensing rates, enormous manufacturing expenses, punishing trade shows, carbon footprint guilt, and pestering trend forecasts – yet why starting your own business is still a path worth pursuing and how the less appealing parts can actually be helpful! She will also discuss her way of combining of India ink and Adobe, switching between hand painting and digitally manipulating scanned drawings, and how the end result is shaped by both the final production method and general whims – using her drawings and the fabric to explain the process.

This lecture is sponsored by the MFA in Illustration Practice.
