Monday panelists:


Len Small is an art director and designer based in New York. He is the incoming Art Director for Columbia Magazine, and the Co-President of ICON: The Illustration Conference, happening in Detroit this July. He was the founding Art Director of Nautilus, served as Art Director for Tablet Magazine, and has designed and directed for the Wall Street Journal, New York Media, and R/GA. His work has been recognized by Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, Society of Publication Designers, The Webbys, ASME, Society for News Design, and Communication Arts. He earned his MFA in Design from the School of Visual Arts, and his BFA in Fine Arts from Washington University in St Louis.



Melinda Beck is an illustrator, animator, and graphic designer based in in Brooklyn New York. She has received numerous awards including two Emmy nominations and has had the pleasure of working for such clients as: Neiman Marcus, Nickelodeon, Nike, Real Simple magazine, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Random House, Target, and Time Magazine. A series of her prints was acquired by the Library of Congress for their permanent collection.



MFA in Illustration Practice at MICA Founding Director Whitney Sherman examines illustration as a 21st century practice through education, exhibition and her studio practice including freelance print illustration, and surface design through her company Pbody Dsign. She is also Co-Director of Dolphin Press & Print at MICA. As a former creative director, art director and designer, her work has been recognized by American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts and Print Regional Design annuals. She created the central artwork for the USPS Breast Cancer Research stamp, the first semi-postal issue in the US, and is the author of Playing with Sketches, to date translated into 4 languages. Sherman has given workshops and lectures in China, Mexico and the US. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be seen on the Norman Rockwell Museum site and
