In this series, I am stepping out of my comfort-zone and into the beginning stages of world-building. The three images are an introduction to the neighborhood and greater community where my characters live, their living quarters, and one character’s route to work. I withhold sound and speech, but imagine that as this world continues to unfold and develop, there will be more for my characters to say.

I am fascinated with the metaphorical masks that we all wear as humans (personality), when we don’t want to be seen fully (vulnerability). This unnamed world features people who wear masks in public and other places where they, too, don’t necessarily want to be seen. In the safety or predictability of home, the characters of this world are free to remove their masks and reveal themselves.

IRL: I challenge you to inquire and get honest about where, in your life, you may be wearing a mask or concealing yourself from others, too.
